UAC Stopping Program for Users

$

I have 25 users effected by this problem. A particular program installed on the Terminal Server (Windows Server 2012 R2) that all users must access will not run unless users are given administrative rights. As soon as we run the program the box pops up that says, "do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?". I do NOT want to turn off the UAC and cannot give users administrative rights to the terminal server either. And I can't have them entering the administrative password every time they access this software. I need a way to allow this program to run for all users without prompting for admin user login info.

Hi Support,

I have a Windows 2012 R2 standard that is hosting a LOB application.  7 users are logging in to it using rdp from different locations. The port 3389 is open and we have a static IP.  It was recently hacked.  I need to know  how to put either 2fa or any other safety measures to protect the server?

How can i get an alert if 5consecutiveinvalidauthenticationattempts have occurred?

I appreciate your help.

Support for distributed servers against a public RD gateway

Hi there,

Is it possible to register a remote PC that I would like to control to a publicly available RDP gateway?   I'd like to be able to register from the remote PC to establish the RD gateway as a relay to distributed devices rather than require the devices I want to connect to be within the network.

Remote Descktop Self Sighned Cert - how do I stop the system from generating it on reboots?

I'm trying to get rid of the "Self Signed" Remote Desktop Certificate.

We're utsing centrally issued SSL Certs that have been imported into the Computer > Certificates > Personal > Certificates folder as well as the REmote Desktop > Certificates folder.

The issue is every time I reboot the server the Self Signed Cert returns and it's getting pinged on a security scan.  While I've set the properties to not be used for any purpose, I would really like to get rid to the thing.

How do I go about stopping the server from re-issuing the Self Signed Cert on each reboot?

Thanks in advance!

How to launch a RDP file in Remote Application Mode through command line?

Hello, guys!  I created a RDP file to seamlessly access to a Remote Application.  The RDP file is working well.  But every time I try to launch it though command line, mstsc.exe throws an "Invalid connection file" message.  I've been trying to debug the file in notepad and it seems that the problem is with the "remoteapplicationmode:i:1" line.  Is there any way to launch a RDP file in Remote Application Mode through command line?  Thanks!

Validating and reusing Windows Server 2016 volume licenses

We have changed Managed Service Providers multiple times in the last couple years andcannot seem to get any answers about Windows Server 2016 Standard licenses we purchased due to an audit from our MSP in 2017.

We’ve given the volume license key we received from our MSP at the time, xxx, in 2017 to our current MSP, yyy.

That License Key is: ........

It is supposed to be for 40 Windows Server 2016 Standard (2 core pack) licenses.  But xxx can’t seem to confirm our licenses.

Just a few months ago we had an issue where we had to move our virtual machines from Hyper-V to VMWare.

Those Hyper-V VMs originally held the licenses.  We want to apply the licenses to the VMWare replacements.

The VMWare replacements were apparently built with trial licenses which are about to expire.  So we really need

to apply the purchased licenses to our servers.  How can I verify our key?  Don Johnson, don@healthdecisions.com

migrate roaming profiles to user profile disks

Hello,

I am in the process of building a new RDS deployment with the following servers:

FS1 - File server which is the repository for the User Profiles
DC2 - RD Licensing server
CB1 - RD Connection Broker
RDGY1 - RD webaccess
SH1 - RD Session host
SH2 - RD Session host

We have all the users profiles mapped from the location FS1\users. I'm currently evaluating the possibilities to use "user profile disks" using the same profile path. How to achieve this ?

Remote Desktop Connection does not work with some Remote Desktop Gateways

I have two Windows 2012 R2 domain controllers and installed remote desktop gateway on each for redundancy.  Probably 6 months ago RD Gateway on server 1 stopped working with Remote Desktop Connection (the old rd client) but it works with IOS RD Client and the Remote Desktop app found in the Microsoft store.  Server 2 has continued to work fine.  I installed remote desktop gateway on a Windows 2012 R2 server (not a domain controller) and have the same issue on it.  I have compared configurations between the servers and checked logs but don't see anything in the logs except on the client side.  I have checked firewall settings and turned it off for testing.  Any ideas or direction would be appreciated.

Hi

I have installed broker/GW and RDWEB(pick server but not enabled install) on same host

Configered collector and put both session host to his.

I have created to A record in DNS same name to sessions host.(rdns)

Configured gateway and remote desktop client works with same DNS host name.

I have read that is not the best way I have to  "default collection in the RD Connection Broker server’s registry"

Have some tried this and can you help me to configured this.

KB4471320 remote desktop breaks

I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. Once this patch is applied we can no longer logon to our Terminal server.  we have to uninstall this patch to get it working again. Typically trying to logon is like the following:

It tries to connect after entering in a username/passwd, it will say  estimating quality connection and then we get an error that this computer can’t connect to the remote computer.

Thanks,

BITS Service stopping after two minutes

$

I'v just set up a number of Remote Access Servers, some providing full desktops and some RemoteApps.

Two of them seem to have a problem with the BITS service - it's set to Automatic (delayed start) but it's impossible to get it to continue running - after 2 minutes, it stops again.

Both of the affected servers are providing a full remote desktop, although I don't know whether that's relevant - they aren't the only one providing a full desktop, and the others don't seem to be affected. Five of the servers have identical specifications (all set up from scratch, not created from a template), including the same software, and the other three don't have the problem).

Event viewer (system) reports that "The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service entered the stopped state." as an information item, but doesn't give any further detals.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

p.s. They are running Server 2016 Datacenter

RDS Server Stop Error (BlueScreen)

I have a 2012 R2 RDS server crashing every week or so for no apparent reason.  I have run a BlueScreenView analysis and that lead me to this hotfix, which matches all the aspects of the crashing perfectly:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3127673/stop-error-0x000000c2-or-0x0000003b-when-you-re-running-remote-desktop-services-in-windows-server-2012-r2

However, when attempting to install this hotfix, I get the error "This update is not compatible with your system."  There is no indication that this hotfix has been included in a subsequent cumulative update, so I'm not sure where to go from here.

Licensing

Hello, I setup a VM on HyperV and run Remote Desktop services on it. I setup all the components including licensing. Everything looks fine except when I try to login to the server remotely as local admin I get a message that there is no licensing. I thought that there were two build in admin licenses and when I login remotely as admin the licensing I have setup for regular users would not be used. Any thoughts? What can I check or need to change for the admin licensing to work?

Thank you. Karel Grulich, MCSE, SBS

Remote Windows 10 Enterpreise cleints fail to connect RD Session Host through RD Gateway

$

Hi Guys:

I am stuck in a very strange problem and wonder if someone can help ASAP. It turs out to be a challenge as I have tried everything by the book but no luck.

I have remote desktop deployed with Hyper-V VM1 as RD Connection Broker which is also RD licensing server,Hyper-V VM2 as RD Session Host, Hyper-V VM3 RD Web Access which is also RD Gateway and DirectAccess server ---All running windows server 2012 R2 datacentre

I have setup an A record corp.publicdomain.co.uk on public domain pointing to our public static internet address and have forwarded ports TCP 443 & UDP 3391 to VM3 (RD Web Access & RD Gateway).

The certificate is issued from our internal Enterprise sub-ordinate CA to *.internaldomain.com & corp.publicdomain.co.uk in CNAME and DNS. This certificates is also installed into Trusted Root authority Store of remote clients and they trust the remote desktop servers.

I have windows 10 Enterprise installed on remote clients which are domain joined and connected to our network with DirecAccess. We only use direct access to apply group policies. Through GP they are set to use our public domain corp.publicdomain.co.uk as RD Gateway, delegate default credentials TERMSRV*.internaldomain.com to ensure SSO and have a setup default RemoteApp connection through public address of RD Web Access. Clients run remote apps by going to Work Resources folder on the start menu and client on published apps icon.

Internally this works fine and also worked fine for remote clients until two days ago when suddenly they encountered a dialogue box:

Windows Security

Enter your credentials

Typer your username and passoword to connect to <FQDN of VM1> which is remote connection broker

and in red The logon attempt failed. Wont login even the credentials are entered again.

As work around, I have now arranged to connect them through VPN and running apps from RD Web access page from local FQDN/rdweb of RD Web Access server.

I tried to connect from outside from windows 10 home, windows 10 pro and windows 7 and could connect through RD Gateway without any problem. So this pretty much narrows it down to windows 10 Enterprise (64-bit if this matters :))

Many Thanks

Limit windows server 2016 RDP sessions to one

$

Hi,

By default the number of available RDP sessions is 2, but I'd like to limit the number of RDP sessions of a windows server 2016 to only one (even if the user is an administrator). ¿Is that possible?

P.S. My server has no RDS role active.

Thanks in advance,

Patxi
