Hi.

We are running Remote Desktop 2016 with Danish language pack.

We have noticed that the GUI changes and control options are missing as soon as I add the danish language pack.

initial I did a offline install from a cab file, first I thought that I was using a outdated cab file or something.

Then I tried to make a new server from our image(without language pack) and add the language pack from the control panel, and auto downloaded it.. same problem.

Then I installed a new server from ISO and did not join our domain, just bootet and add language from control panel.. same problem, I am unable to create a new working server with danish language pack.

We currently have 14 RDS2016 server deployed from the same image 6 of the have the same problem, settings panel is missing options and icons and labels do not match when using danish language pack.

Any suggestions how to fix this?

Windows 7 using Self-Signed certificate when connecting via Web Access externally

When logging in via our external facing WebAccess configuration to a Windows 7 vm we see the screenshot below. When we connect to a windows 10 vm it connects straight away no problem.

When we look at the certificate it's a self-signed one, why is W7 using this..? What are we missing with Windows 7...?

am using Windows 2012 R2 server, I have licensed it with 50 user CALs. I want to deploy apps via RemoteApps, but I cant get into the overview of the Remote Desktop services. when I try to start the Remote Desktop management service, it throws an error saying"The Remote Desktop Management Service started and stopped.Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs"

I really need to fix this. Please help.

Validating and reusing Windows Server 2016 volume licenses

We have changed Managed Service Providers multiple times in the last couple years andcannot seem to get any answers about Windows Server 2016 Standard licenses we purchased due to an audit from our MSP in 2017.

We’ve given the volume license key we received from our MSP at the time, xxx, in 2017 to our current MSP, yyy.

That License Key is: ........

It is supposed to be for 40 Windows Server 2016 Standard (2 core pack) licenses. But xxx can’t seem to confirm our licenses.

Just a few months ago we had an issue where we had to move our virtual machines from Hyper-V to VMWare.

Those Hyper-V VMs originally held the licenses. We want to apply the licenses to the VMWare replacements.

The VMWare replacements were apparently built with trial licenses which are about to expire. So we really need

to apply the purchased licenses to our servers. How can I verify our key? Don Johnson, don@healthdecisions.com

I'm setting up several new Remote Desktop servers (session-based). Do I need to install the RD Web Access role if the users will only be connecting via the RDP client? It wants to install it as part of the default installation, but for security reasons I think it might be better not to have it, unless not doing so will cause loss of other functionality.

Hi folks,

I have 2 different Win10 laptops signing into my desktop via RD, but both show an older layout of icons than I currently have when working directly from the desktop PC.

If I rearrange icons on desktop, but then RD login, they are still the same as a month or two back.

If I rearrange via laptop when connected to the desktop, no changes are made when I got back to the PC to work.

Frustrating!

Any ideas why it isn't auto-refreshing/updating?

When connecting from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro using the RD app, I get a message "Your password may have expired or the remote pc might not accept blank passwords". My password has not expired (I tried changing it and using the new password), and I am definitely not sending a blank password (the credentials are not saved, and I type them in every time).

Using the desktop app works, but it cuts off after a few seconds, but that's a different issue. When connected, the connection is shown as 'Excellent', so I am not having Internet connection issues.

Using the Android RD app from my phone works perfectly.

I sat up windows server 2016 RDS server, I installed the roles (we access, session host and connection broker) on the same server.

I enabled the IP virtualization per program and listed some processes so it will be bound to the virtual IP, for example, telnet.exe, JP2launcher.exe.

all of them successfully been able to be directed from the virtual IP except for Java Process (I used tcpview.exe to trace the processes), knowing that the event viewer shows that the virtual IP address was given to the process.

I repeated the installation on windows server 2012 and the same happened.

we configured the same regrading the IP virtualization parameters but on Citrix and every thing was working.

anybody had the same issue?

Hi,

I am facing an issue which I am trying to solve for a month and so far I have not found the solution and the cause of the issue i am facing.

The scenario is as follow:

When working from the internal/VPN network everything works as expected, which is:

- Users are automatically logged into RdWeb
- Users are automatically logged into the RemoteApp

DNS name used is https://remote-new.company.com -> which result in a connection to the GW in the DMZ.

When working form the external network the sitatuion is as follows:

- users needs to login to login RdWeb (As expected).
- User choose an RemoteApp, and prompt to login again to the CB server. (Not expecte

DNS name used is https://remote-new.company.com -> which result in a connection to the ISP and forwarded it to the GW so this is a external connection.

The servers are setup like this:

DMZ: server.company.local
Server1: GW and WebAccess role

LAN: server.company.local
Server 1: CB Role
Server 2: SH Role

The following policies are applied:

Automatic logon with the current username and password - Enabled - all RDS servers
Site to zone Assignmentlist - https://remote-new.company.com - 2 - All RDS Servers
Always prompt for password upon connection - Disabled - All RDS Servers
Specify-seperated list of sha1 trusted certificate tumbprints: Internal .local server
Allow delegating default credentials
Allow delegation default credentials with NTLM-Only server authentication

Due to security reasons we do not allow our users to copy files from or to the servers wit RDP. Thus Clipboard is disabled with GPO. However they should be able to copy text from their local computer to the remote session.

Is it possible to restrict the clipboard copy trough RDP to only allow string copy and forbid copy of files?

Windows Search changes in Server 2019 RDS

So nothing like being on the cutting edge......

I have been testing Server 2019 RDS and so-far-so-good apart from an issue with the Windows Search Service.

It appears that in Server 2019 each user gets their own search database EDB file in their profile path (appdata\roaming). e.g.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629\S-1-5-21-3901271148-1553943383-1671037523-1629.edb

When they log on and log off; this is connected to the search service and the following event log is generated

Unfortunately it appears that this process is not very stable and on some logons the database in the users profile does not attach and the following error is generated

No subsequent logon/off will succeed in attaching the database until the Windows Search service is restarted

I am not testing with User Profile Disks or Roaming Profiles
There is no AV on the server

Any ideas?

Greetings,

We've got an issue when trying to use a Gemalto Ezio Shield Pro smart card reader in a RDS 2012R2 session.
When I plug the USB SC reader, the device can be seen in device manager with no error. However When I use the command certutil -scinfo, i get an error : Smart card reader is currently running. SCardListReaders : unable to find a smart card reader 0x8010002e (-2146435026 SCARD_E_NO_READERS_Available). ScardListReaders failed for SCARD_ALL_Readers.
When I check system log, I find an error 602 Smart Card Service : WDM Reader driver initialization cannot open reader device : Access Denied.

We use Axel AX3000 M80G thin clients to connect to a 2012R2 RDS server hosted on an clustered Hyper-v Guest. The SC reader is working well on another session. When I get the configuration information from the AX3000, I see that the sc reader is detected and identififed which is also the case in the device manager.

I checked on google and found infos about Local Service ACL issues. This lead me to give Full Control to Local Service on HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais but it did not fix the problem.

Does anyone ever had such a case or know a way to fix this issue?

I am in the process of building a new RDS deployment with the following servers:

FS1 - File server which is the repository for the User Profiles
DC2 - RD Licensing server
CB1 - RD Connection Broker
RDGY1 - RD webaccess
SH1 - RD Session host
SH2 - RD Session host

We have all the users profiles mapped from the location FS1\users. I'm currently evaluating the possibilities to use "user profile disks" using the same profile path. How to achieve this ?

Hi,

I originally set my Server 2016 RDP server up by going to Role-based or feature based installation as I thought that would work ok...However I since found that no collection was showing in server manager, and apparently I had to run the other method... so I did.

It succeeded on Remote Desktop Services role services, failed on session collection with the following error:

Failed:
Unable to create the session collection. Unable to configure the RD Session Host server servername. Invalid operation

And cancelled on Remote App Programs.

I assume this would be because I already had it all setup. However it all seems to be working now, I had to add the gateway and licencing to the collection.

Do I need to do anything or is this to be expected if it was already otherwise setup?
