RemoteApp does not use redirected local default printer

I've seen several different threads on this topic but none of the reported solutions have worked in my network.  The problem summary: Windows Vista clients running Dynamics GP 2010 as a RemoteApp installed on Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services do not get the correct default printer.

The server is a 2008 R2 Datacenter VM on a Hyper-V host.  The main application on the server is Dynamics GP 2010.  GP 2010 is configured to run as a RemoteApp.

Clients are Windows Vista x86 with the latest SP and updates.  Remote Desktop client is 6.1.7600 and RDP is 7.0.  They are configured to connect using default credentials so there is no Windows login when connecting.  The client is configured to redirect printers so the user keeps their default and other nearby printers.  The end result is when a user runs the GP 2010 RemoteApp, the redirected printers show up but the application defaults to a PDF printer.  In testing I get the same results using WordPad as the RemoteApp.

The only time I get the correct results is when I log into the remote desktop first and then start the application.  I have tried every suggestion from many of the related topic threads over the past 2 days with no improvement - group policy changes, RDP client configuration changes, checking client and server event logs, verifying recommended updates are installed.  Leaving the sessions active is not an option since it interferes with getting good backups in GP2010.

Any ideas on a solution to this problem?  Thank you in advance.
