Can I apply register.exe on Server 2008? I know it is no longer shipped, can I use a Server 2003 register.exe and would the below apply?

Note that a program's registration data is recognized only when the program is installed. If you use theregister command for a program that is already installed on the server, the changes do not take effect until the next time that the program is installed.
