RDS 2016 disconnect in 60 minutes warning with NComputing L300 devices

We run Server 2016's only but get that same license message  since ~ January 2020 only. We have Ncomputing L300 terminals behind. We use CAL per device with Workgroup only and our RDL diagnosers says there are no issues. Each server is its own licensing server too.

Through gpedit.msc I switched off licensing messages but that has no effect.

Sometimes the terminals get disconnected for ~30 seconds but they come back in the last state, just irritating.

We don't want to give our students admin login rights.

Hi guys,

I have a Windows Server 2016 with RD Broker and RD Session Host roles. Users connect to this RD Session Host via another server with Remote Desktop Gateway role installed. In other words first users connect to a remote desktop gateway and then are redirected to a remote desktop session host (terminal server).

There are four users who work on that server and one of them sporadically gets disconnected from the server. 

When it happens that user can see this message. 

 

I checked local network connectivity as well as WAN link - all good and no dropouts.

I installed Remote Desktop Services Diagnostic Tool but struggling to interpret an output. 

What user failed to logon means if that users indeed logged in but just gets disconnected sporadically?

Hi Experts!

Would like to ask if it is possible to have 2 Collection which is windows 7 and 10  with 2 RDSH in one VDI infrastructure ? Or should i need to add additional RDSH for new Windows collection in same server? 

Currently we have existing windows 7 collection and we provision to build another collection, we have successfully build it and create virtual desktop under the new collection. Unfortunately upon testing /log in to windows 10 we have an error message prompt below. 

Can someone tell us the best practices if it's possible to have 2 collection with 2 RDSH only separated the RDVH server. or it may required to have additional Remote Desktop Session host in VDI. ?

I am currently testing RDS in our environment on 2019 servers. I followed this guide to set this up.

I applied a wildcard certificate for all the services. 

When the user logs on to https://rds.mycompany.com/rdweb with domain credentials he is prompted for another login to the RD Gateway. 

 

The RDweb service is running on the same host as the RD Gateway. I have come across applying group policy, trusted sites etc. But my issue here is the users will be logging from a non-domain joined home PCs. Please help.

RemoteApps SSO from control panel

Hi all,

I have configured RDS on windows server 2019. I was able to configure SSO for both MSTSC and RDWEB. Including sign in to the RDWEB web page and starting RemoteApp from the web page.

My problem is with adding RemoteApp from control panel. When I add a new connection it always request credentials saying the used credentials are incorrect. I don't understand why because all other ways are working correctly...

Any help would be appreciated.

RemoteApp is not launched when connect to RDWeb from remote site

Hi, I need your help for the issue below.
RemoteApp is not available under the certain conditions,
which shows "Remote App Disconnected. Remote computer cannot be found".
It works when connected from office LAN but shows error above when connected to office LAN via VPN with FortiGate.

・Environment

HW: AWS
RD Broker/RDWeb/RD Session Host Server=WinSvr 2016
RD Gateway Server -> Not setup
Certificate -> Not applied

・Client
PC:Windows 7/Windows10
iPad:iOS 10.3.1 and uses the app RD Client

・Network

A. Office LAN
B. VPN connection via FortiGate from remote site
 -> FortiGate is already setup to connect to AWS from Office without VPN


・Published RemoteApp
A. exe file of our scratch business system
B. Calculator of Windows

・Conditions

A. Connect to RemoteApp via .rdp file from Office LAN by PC
   -> Success
B. Connect to RemoteApp via RDWeb(https://(ipaddress)/RDWeb) from Office LAN by PC
   -> Success
C. Connect to RemoteApp via .rdp file from remote site by PC
   -> Success
D. Connect to RemoteApp via RDWeb(https://(ipaddress)/RDWeb) from remote site by PC
   -> RDWeb login success.
   -> Launching Remote App shows error ("Remote App Disconnected. Remote computer cannot be found")
E. Connect to RemoteApp via the app RD Client from remote site by iPad
   -> Shows error.
      ("Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, turned on
        and available on the network, and then try again.』)
   -> At the same time, RDP connection to AWS successed, which means AWS is on.


・Consideration
A. Both of the business system and Calculator shows the same error
   -> The business system is not the cause.
B. From the result of Conditions, it fails to launch RemoteApp when connecting RDWeb 
 from remote site (with FortiGate).


Does anyone have any idea what to check and solve the issue?
Is there any possibility that something is missing in our DNS?
I have been working on this almost a week but there is no key for the solution.

Second broker not functionning

Hello,

I need your help.

I have a RDS FARM with 

8 host session (named RDS01, RDS02...)

2 Brokers (BRK01 and BRK03)

1 Management (MGM01) where we deployed the farm and see the collection, and with the SQL server for broker HA

DC is on another server

Everything is in 2016 version, windows server 2016, SQL server 2016

My connection chain : Driver={ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server};Server=MYENTERPRISE-MGM01,1433;UID=sa;Pwd={password_replaced};Database=RDFarm

DNS name for the mstsc connection : RDS.MYENTERPRISE.LOCAL

collection name : RDS-MYENTERPRISE

name of the DB : RDFarm

Round robin on the dns between the 8 host (RDS01,...)

Problem : The second broker for the HA is not working. 

We had BRK02 but with many problems, so we created a new server : BRK03. 

But BRK03 is not working too

When a RDS Host is going through BRK01, everything is ok, we see users in the connection of the collection on the MGM.

But when RDS Host is going through BRK03, we don't see the users in the collection, and users got temp session when disconnect/connect.

In the events on BRK03 :

Dear All,

We would like find out below if best design of RDS architecture:

DMZ
1 Machine would host the Remote Desktop Gateway and the Remote Web Access

Internal
1 Machine would host the Remote Connection Broker and RD Licensing
2 Machine with the Remote Session host                                                                                                                         

With above setup, could you help to clarify below question:

1) What is the network port requirement for this setup?
2) Should RDG&RWS join to domain?
3) What Internal cert required for connection?

RDP with SSL Certificate Issues

Our server is configured with Secure RDP certificate from an Internal CA.

When we connect to the servers it works flawlessly from the old Remote Desktop application (mstc.exe), but when trying with the New Remote Desktop App (Windows Store) and iOS devices (even though the CA and Subordinate CA were successfully imported as a Profile and granted full trust on the devices, it reports certificate issues before connecting!

from the computers it says: "It might not be safe to connect to this PC: certificate revocation unknown"

from the iOS devices it says: Not Verified"

Both shows the proper certificate (with the correct thumbprint)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

how to give limited RDP access to application team

Hi,

I want to create different AD groups and assign RDP with limited permissions e.g. for application team to run different application services etc. similarly to DBAs to to check DB related things. but they should not be able to install anything or restart servers.

please guide

My future Remote App server is behind an ISP Routeur (NAT).

How can I access to the app with Remote App from an other geographical site ? Is it possible ? Do I have to open some ports ?

RDS User CAL Licensing question

I apologize if this is the wrong forum, I didn't see a licensing one. I'm just looking for confirmation of my understanding per Microsoft documentation.

Background:

We have over 100 RDS User CALs for our RDS Farm and are hardly using any of them.

Situation:

However, it's possible that something may cause our need for RDS, and its licenses, to shoot up to a few hundred users overnight. As I understand it, RDS Licensing allows us to over-use User CALs. 

Question:

If the above situation occurs, we'll be able to immediately accommodate our users and not be limited to our current license pool, correct? We'd then be able to purchase the extra licenses we needed to stay in compliance without being in a mad dash. 

We'd prefer not to buy a few hundred extra CALs if we absolutely didn't have to.

How many RDS gateways & RDS broker is needed for 150 -200 users to connect at the same time

I would like to know how many RDS gateways & RDS brokers is required to server 150 -200 users at the same time?

At the moment we have 2 gateways and 2 brokers and we are having connection issues.

Any guidance would be help full

Users permission are different if the the user saves the RDP file to the desktop or run the it from RDWeb.

Hi,

We have setup File Explorer in a RDS farm to allow access to a shared drive Share Z:\ . The file share Z:\ is setup on the file server with Enable access-based enumeration Enabled. If the user logs into RDS Web and accesses File Explorer from RDWeb then the permissions are correct. The same as if they opened the share from the local computer.

But if the user saves the File Explorer RDP file to their desktop and runs it from there then they are able to see all files on the file share.

Please could you help me with this?

Windows Server 2019 RDP license

Hello,

 

We bought a license for 50 users, which works well as we can use tens of active ones, but still logs in the login error that it expires in 116 days because the rd server is not configured but on the license tab green it says that there is a license for 50 users. The License Management Test Module writes 0 user licenses ....
Has anyone ever encountered such a mistake?

RDS 2016 Standard / RemoteApps Flickering & Disappearing

I'm trying to get our users off of a Citrix solution, in favor of RDS running on Windows Server 2016 Standard.

The only problem is many users who are testing the new solution report that the published RemoteApps flicker or straight up disappear from view. The quick fix is selecting the task tray icon and selecting the running application so that the window re-appears, but I'm wondering if there is a way to fix this entirely. I've read similar stories relating to RDS 2012 and previous versions.

One example of when this happens is when someone is in a published application, and they attempt to save/export a file to PDF (which uses folder redirection), sometimes after they save the file and it successfully exports, the whole remoteapp will vanish from view.

We are using a session based deployment.

We have users with MacOS and Windows 10 and the issue of RemoteApp flickering/disappearing-off-screen  occurs on both platforms.

Any help is appreciated.

After several YEARS of operation, i got a Ticket of an user error: user is complaining tjhat he can see the RDweb icons, but when try to access any published App, the error message: 

"To log on to this computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through the Terminal (or Remote Desktop) Services right...."

IN the EV logs:

Failure Information:
Failure Reason:The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine.
Status: 0xc000015b
Sub Status: 0x0

The TSWeb is up and running for several years, Win2008R2, installed and barely touched since 2012!

So:

1) There are several published applications, among them, a "Chrome Browser" associated to a global group GG-TS-Chrome, and the  GG-TS-Chrome is inside the local "Remote Desktop Users" as usual. Te user can see all icons on TSWeb, so, it proves that the user is being considered as inside the group and the whoami /groups is expecting as expected, showing the user´s groups

2) There is NO Deny Logon via TS local or domain policy in place

3) The checkbox denying logon via TS in user´s AD properties (RDS profile)  is NOT checked

4) The AD group GG-TS-Chrome is isnde the "Remote Desktop Users" of the local TS/RDweb server

5) RDP properties are OK, permissions for Guest/users are in palce, as expected

what else should I check?

Query Logged In Users of remote RDS Servers

Hi All

A bit of a strange one. This function has worked in the past, but seems to have stopped. Server 2016 Datacenter. RDS servers set up in a farm, RDS1, RDS2, RDS3 and RDS4. I am able to log on to RDS1, and run the following command:

Query User /Server:RDS2

And I can get a list of all users logged on to the remote server. However, when I try to run the command asking about RDS4, I get the following result:

Error 0x000006BA enumerating sessionnames

Error [1722]:The RPC server is unavailable

I am able to log in to RDS4 and run query user, and it shows me the list of logged in users just fine. I am able to query the other servers from RDS4 successfully. The error seems to happen only when querying RDS4 from 1, 2 or 3. I have tried running the command with the NETBIOS name, as well as the IP and the FQDN. Still get the same result. I have disabled the firewall and AV (Symantec) and still fails. Tried disabling all the third party services and rebooting, but still fails. Tried running sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Both ran through fine and didn't say they fixed anything, but rebooted anyway and still failing. Looking online, there are a lot of references to a certain registry key that needs to be enabled:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\AllowRemoteRPC

This key is set to 1, and has been rebooted. I am logged in as domain admin on all endpoints. The servers will have been created from a single image that was sysprepped, so is it possible that there is a old NETBIOS name somewhere in the registry? Starting to run low on things that I can try to find out what is happening, so Im hoping that someone here has seen this before or has an idea on something we can try.

Windows Search Index does not show more locations for me to choose

OS: Windows Server 2019 Standard

Version: 1809

OS build: 17763.1039

Server is a VM installed on a Windows Server 2019 Standard Hyper-V physical server.

Server has terminal services installed and is being used as a RDP server.

It has the search services feature installed.

The problem is that I am unable to select any of the drives as locations for search indexing. There should be at least a C: D: and F: drive available for indexing, but none are available. I have already click the "Show all locations" button but that added nothing to the list. I have tried logging in as a new user, but that didn't help. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the feature but that didn't change anything. Server has been rebooted multiple times with no change. I'm really at a loss at this point, any other server 2019 that I try the same process on works perfectly.

Jan 2020 Windows Updates KB4534297 & KB4534309 Break Mac Remote Desktop connections through Web Application Proxy

In a 2012 R2 RDS environment where Web Application Proxy and RD Gateway are used we found thatMac RDP clients could not open RemoteApps after installing the January 2020 Windows Updates KB4534297 & KB4534309.

Mac users were getting errors 0x204 or 0x3000008 when attempting to connect.

Windows RDP clients could connect fine. The main issue was with the previously mentioned updates on the Web Application Proxy server. Uninstalling these updates from the Web Application Proxy server and rebooting allowed Mac connections to again work through Web Application Proxy.
