I have some experience with VMWare ESXi 4.1 but I'm completely new to Hyper-V and I am jumping into 2012 Hyper-V right for the first time in a test lab and if everything goes well I plan on implementing Hyper-V on three production systems at work.
We will be running some Windows 7 guest machines on the Hyper-V and I have several questions.
- Can static guest OSes be assigned static MAC addresses to their virtual Ethernet hardware in Hyper-V?
- The virtual Windows 7 machines will be static as they will be running software that is licensed to the MAC address (stupid I know, but no legal away around it). What is the preferred licensing of the Windows 7 Professional? Retail? VL?
- Is there any dual display thin-clients out there that work particularly well with Hyper-V and dual display guests?
- Can the dual display support desktop spanning? One app we use requires the use of both screens within a single application window.
- Is there any other licensing I need to be concerned about with running static Windows 7 in Hyper-V?
I've used VMWare Workstation for several years for learning purposes and VMWare ESXi for some home projects but other than that I know very little about medium to large scale virtual systems and thin-clients so please bear with me and excuse my ignorance.
